What is PlusOneHire?
Plusonehire consists of a team of four multimedia arts students of De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde Manila, dedicated to promoting and bringing light into workplace equality by encouraging the country’s businesses and companies to recognize the capabilities and strengths of persons with Down syndrome through social inclusivity, equal rights, and corporate social responsibility.
What We Discovered
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, in regard to disability-inclusive hiring processes in the Philippines, are limited, yet developing, and avenues toward sustainable and meaningful employment opportunities for persons with Down syndrome (PDS) have to be recognized. Despite advocacy efforts and existing legal frameworks promoting inclusivity, many businesses and companies remain unaware of the multiple barriers to workforce participation, moreso, the potential benefits that come with hiring and/or employing them, which can bring an uplifting change in the society.
Thus, the multimedia project seeks to create awareness on inspiring businesses and companies to consider their resources, provide equal and meaningful opportunities, and make safe and diverse workplaces where inclusivity is practiced and valued. In addition, this initiative gives confidence to families of persons with Down syndrome to guide them in their pursuit of personal growth and financial independence. Highlighting the benefits both companies and persons with Down syndrome can gain due to distinctive contributions, PlusOneHire intends to break the stigma, support employment inclusivity, expand community support, and make room for exceptional talent.
